July 11th, World Population Day and USERN 2022

Theme: A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all – Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all

Since our existence on this planet, we humans have achieved much. Advancements in healthcare and technology have contributed to a longer lifespan and a rapid growth in the human population. As the world population approaches eight billion this year, we wonder if we are able to provide an adequate living environment for all humankind. In the words of UN Secretary-General, António Guterres: “Reaching a global population of eight billion is a numerical landmark, but our focus must always be on people. In the world we strive to build, 8 billion people means 8 billion opportunities to live dignified and fulfilled lives.”

We have come a long way but still face many challenges, such as human rights, equality, and climate change. Addressing such tremendous issues requires an international effort from all global citizens. Therefore, in December 1990, the United Nations designated July 11th as World Population Day to remind each of us of our responsibility to solve global problems and to celebrate the achievements of humanity.

In its role as a global scientific network, USERN has an innate responsibility to increase public awareness through education and research and to promote “science without borders”. We have recently organized FAITH (First Aid For International Health), an international multi-language (English, Persian and Indonesian) free webinar with 827 registrants from 23 countries and speakers from 4 different continents to promote public awareness of first aid. Moreover, we have experienced rapid growth since our founding six years ago. Today, USERN has more than 20,000 members from around the globe and more than 600 advisory board members, including 19 Nobel and Abel prize laureates and top 1% scientists. USERN has 69 Interest Groups, 56 offices in Iran and 62 ambassadors worldwide and has signed 77 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with different international organizations.

We dare to dream of a world in which humanity has finally achieved its long-awaited utopia: A brotherhood of peace, love, health, and prosperity for each and every member of the human race...

Happy "World Population Day and USERN"!
