Since December 2019, COVID-19 has started its story and became a pandemic at an unprecedented pace. USERN started to respond to the pandemic from the very early days, with scientific production and borderless communication.
USERN advisors have highlighted the importance of integrated science in combating the COVID-19 pandemic (https://doi.org/10.1186/s12967-020-02364-2).
USERN in collaboration with its partner scientific associations (Memorandum of Understandings) has focused on the significance of collaborative works in facing global health issues (https://doi.org/10.4269/ajtmh.20-0281 ).
USERN junior ambassadors have worked on the role of borderless collaborations in fighting unknown challenges and saving the healthcare system (https://doi.org/10.1017/ice.2020.162 ) (https://dx.doi.org/10.23750%2Fabm.v91i3.9891 ).
USERN offices reviewed the advantages and disadvantages of the quarantine in the COVID-19 pandemic (https://doi.org/10.1017/dmp.2020.384 ).
Different USERN interest groups have focused on different aspects of COVID-19 such as pandemic’s origin, diagnosis, treatment opportunities, global response to the pandemic, current challenges, future perspective, and interdisciplinary subjects. This vast effort has resulted in more than 120 scientific articles till today.
USERN in collaboration with its international partners has started the “COVID-19” book from early 2020, which is going to be published by Springer publisher, in May 2021. (https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030637606)
Furthermore, USERN has suggested a guideline for holding events during pandemics and introduce the “hybrid model”, which is approved by the world’s experts: https://doi.org/10.1017/dmp.2020.406
This model has been successfully tested in the 5th International USERN Congress and Prize Awarding Festival: https://doi.org/10.18502/acta.v59i1.5395
We are proud to report the USERN scientific activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, today, on April 7th, World Health Day.
Other projects on COVID-19 are still ongoing in USERN!
