USERN proudly announces Professor Roald Hoffmann, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, as a member of its advisory board.
USERN proudly announces Professor Roald Hoffmann as a member of its advisory board. Prof. Hoffmann is a Polish-American theoretical chemist who won the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
He was born in Poland on July 18, 1937. He was awarded the prize for his contributions to the field of chemical reactions. Additionally, his work has had a lasting impact on the understanding of chemical bonding and reactivity. Besides the 1981 Nobel Prize, he has won many other awards and is the recipient of more than 25 honorary degrees. The ACS Award in Pure Chemistry (1969), Harvard Centennial Medal (1994), and the Marie Curie Medal of the Polish Chemical Society (2019) are some of his awards. Dr. Hoffmann graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1955, where he won a Westinghouse science scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College in 1958, his Master of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1960, and earned his Ph.D. from Harvard while working. Known for blending chemistry with philosophy, poetry, and literature, he is widely respected for his ability to make complex scientific concepts accessible to broader audiences. Since USERN promotes science without borders, which aligns with Prof. Hoffmann’s vision, he was a perfect match to join the advisory board. Prof. Hoffmann's addition to the USERN advisory board strengthens an already impressive assembly of Nobel laureates. Here are some other distinguished members of the board:
