Persian Medicine, also known as Unani medicine, is one of the holistic/comprehensive medical systems with a long-lasting history. It is based on humoral medicine and theory of Mizaj (temperament) which tries to maintain the balance between the four humors i.e., bile, sanguine, phlegm, and black bile, while considering both the spiritual and physical aspects of human health. This Hikmat (philosophy)-based school of medicine has evolved since ancient times continuing its progression through the Middle Ages with Persian scholars such as Rhazes (865–925 AD), Haly Abbas (949–982 AD), and Avicenna (980–1037 AD).
