Teaching recent advances and applied knowledge on microbial toxins and their physiology/ apply modified microbial toxins in a therapeutic manner against disease/research and developed methods in basic molecular medical microbiology and biotechnology, molecular physiology, pharmacology and medicine.
A toxin is a poisonous substance produced within living cells or organisms. They can be small molecules, peptides, or proteins that are capable of causing disease on contact with or absorption by body tissues interacting with biological macromolecules such as enzymes or cellular receptors. Microbial toxins include toxins produced by micro-organisms, including bacteria and fungi. Microbial toxins promote infection and disease by directly damaging host tissues and by disabling the immune system. A better understanding of microbial toxins physiology may lead to improve food safety, infection management, disease control and its treatment.
