Biosketch
Jianhua Zhang received PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Ruhr-Universitä Bochum, Germany in
2005. Between 1999 and 2002 he was a Lecturer at Beijing University of Technology, China. Afterwards he worked for three years as Guest Scientist and Scientific Coworker at Technische Universitä Dresden and Ruhr-Universitä Bochum, Germany. Between 2005 and 2006 he was a Research Associate at The University of Sheffield, UK. He has been a Full Professor and Head of Intelligent Systems Research Group at School of Information Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) since 2007 and an Invited Adjunct Professor at Institute of Cognitive Neurodynamics of the same university since 2009. He held the position of Visiting Professorship at Technische Universität Berlin, Germany in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015. He also paid short-term academic visit to universities of Dortmund, Erlangen-Nürnberg, Saarland, Duisburg, and Stuttgart and TU Dresden in Germany, CNRS Paris in France, and ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
Dr Zhang’s research interests are in computational intelligence, machine learning, and intelligent systems and control theory with applications in industrial systems, biomedical engineering, and cognitive neuroscience and neuroengineering. He has published 4 books and more than 120 referred journal and conference papers. He received a Full PhD Scholarship from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2002, Chinese government Scholarship and Senior Research Fellowship from China Scholarship Council in 2001 and 2012 respectively, and Fellowship for Experienced Researchers from Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Germany, in 2011. He was selected into Shanghai Municipal Pujiang Talents Program in 2007.
Dr Zhang is the Chair of IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Technical Committee (TC 4.5) on Human-Machine Systems. He is also a member of three IFAC TCs (Large-Scale Complex Systems, Biological & Medical Systems, and Transportation Systems) and CAA (Chinese Association of Automation) TC on Human-Machine Synergism and Hybrid Intelligence. He serves as Associate Editor for
Frontiers in Neuroscience (section Neural Technology), Frontiers Research Topic Editor and Guest Editor of special issues
for several journals (e.g., Engineering Computations, Cognition, Technology & Work). He served as IPC Co-Chair for
IFAC LSS2013 (Shanghai), Technical Associate Editor for 19th
and 20th IFAC World Congress, and IPC Co-Chair for
IFAC HMS2016 (Kyoto). He has served as the IPC Member for a number of leading international conferences (e.g.,
ICCN2015, IFAC BMS2015, CoDIT2016, IFAC CPHS2016, VEHITS2016 and
CCC2014-). He was an invited Keynote Speaker for several international conferences (e.g., EEA2016,
AIST2016, EEEIS2016, ICEEIE2016 and FSDM2016).
