Kin-Lu Wong received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, USA, in 1981, 1984, and 1986, respectively. From 1986 to 1987, he was a visiting scientist with Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics in Munich, Germany. Since 1987 he has been with Electrical Eng. Dept., National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU), Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where he became a Professor in 1991. From 1998 to 1999, he was a Visiting Scholar with the ElectroScience Laboratory, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. In 2005, Prof. Wong was elected to be Sun Yat-sen Chair Professor of NSYSU. He also served as Chairman of Electrical Eng. Dept. from 1994 to 1997, Vice President for Research Affairs from 2005 to 2008, and Senior Vice President, NSYSU from 2007 to 2012. Dr. Wong has published more than 500 refereed journal papers and 250 conference articles and has personally supervised 52 graduated PhDs. He holds over 200 patents, including U.S., Taiwan, China, EU patents. He is the author of Design of Nonplanar Microstrip Antennas and Transmission Lines (Wiley, 1999), Compact and Broadband Microstrip Antennas (Wiley, 2002), and Planar Antennas for Wireless Communications (Wiley, 2003). Dr. Wong’s published articles have been cited over 17,000 times with an H-index of 63 in Google Scholar. In 2014, Dr. Wong was elected as a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters based on the number of highly cited papers produced during 2002~2012 in the Web of Science. In 2008, the research achievements on handheld device antennas of NSYSU Antenna Lab led by Dr. Wong was selected to be top 50 scientific achievements of National Science Council of Taiwan in past 50 years (1959~2009). He was awarded the 2010 Outstanding Research Award of Pan Wen Yuan Foundation and selected as top 100 honor of Taiwan by Global Views Monthly in August 2010 for his contribution in mobile antenna researches. In 2012, Dr. Wong was awarded the Academic Award from Ministry of Education, Taiwan, and the Outstanding Distinguished Researcher Award from National Science Council, Taiwan, in 2013. Dr. Wong is an IEEE Fellow, an IEEE AP-S (Antennas and Propagation Society) Best Papers Awards Committee member (2011~2014), and an Associate Editor of the IEEE AP-S Transactions (2013~). Dr. Wong is also a member and a Chief Consultant of Institute of Antenna Engineers of Taiwan (IAET). He was selected as the featured scientist of ScienceWatch.com in Dec. 2009. He received the Outstanding Research Award three times from National Science Council of Taiwan in 1995, 2000 and 2002. He also received the Outstanding Electrical Engineering Professor Award from Institute of Electrical Engineers of Taiwan in 2003, and the Outstanding Engineering Professor Award from Institute of Engineers of Taiwan in 2004. Dr. Wong was awarded the Best Paper Award (APMC Prize) in 2008 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference. His graduate students were the winners of Best Student Paper Award/Young Scientist Award in 2007 ISAP, 2008 APMC, 2009 ISAP, 2010 ISAP, 2012 ISAP. His graduate students also won the first prize of 2007 and 2009 Taiwan National Mobile Handset Antenna Design Competition. Dr. Wong is General Chair of 2012 APMC at Kaohsiung, Taiwan and 2014 ISAP at Kaohsiung as well. He has been an International Steering Committee member for many international conferences.
