RESEARCH AREAS


Research fields include biodiversity and phylobiogeography, antimicrobial activity and cold-adapted enzymes and biochemistry of marine derived fungi and polar soil microfungi.


Actively involved in various scientific marine expedition at the national level and polar expedition with Antarctic and Arctic Institution based on international networking and collaboration. These include Australian Antarctic (AAD) (2000 & 2002), 
Instituto Antarctico Chileno (2007) (INACH), Instituto Antarctico Equatoriano (INAE) (2007 & 2008), Korean Polar Research Institute 
(KOPRI) at Ny Alesund (2005), Polish Polar Department (2009 & 2010) at Hornsund Station, Arctic and BAS Antarctic station at Signey and Rothera (2014 & 2015 respectively).



Participated in Malaysian Antarctic Research Program (MARP)’s outreach programmes to promote awareness of Antarctica to undergraduate students secondary school pupils in Malaysia. This outreach activity is called
Malaysia’s Journey to the Ice: Women in Antarctica, part of MOSTI Social Innovation (MSI)
grant (2015 – 2017). Currently assisting the development of Malaysia’s Antarctic policies and practices following the coutnry’s recent accession to the Antarctic Treaty, under a grant from Ministry of Higher Education for the development of Science and Policy in Antarctica (2014-2017).
