CURRICULUM VITAE
VAFA RAHIMI-MOVAGHAR, M.D.
Professor Vafa Rahimi-Movaghar was neurosurgeon-in-chief and director of Neurosurgery at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences from 1994 to 2006. He completed his post doctorate “Research Neurotrauma Fellowship” at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre and the courses of spinal cord injury (SCI) research at the University of Irvine, USA in 2002. He moved to Sina Trauma & Surgery Research Center (STSRC) affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in 2006. Since 2010, he is the research vice-chancellor of the centre. He was the AOSpine research council member of Iran from 2012 to 2014 and is AOSpine research officer of Middle East from 2015 to 2017 and AOSpine ambassador in the next three years. He guides PhD by research and post doctorate students in Neurotrauma all in experimental and clinical traumatic SCI. He holds the first rank prize of the 19th RAZI Research Festival, the highest national medical award of the medical sciences in 2013 and prize of University of Tehran in 2015. He has written in neurosurgical and public health topics with 240 publications, six books and 12 chapters; 191 papers in PUBMED; 195 in scopus; Citation: 4097. http://isid.research.ac.ir/ shows rank 32th among 18,543 medical science professors in Iran. H-index: 20; citation/paper: 21.01. He also has operative experience, which includes 3039 neurosurgical operations. He is now director of Neurotrauma in STSRC of TUMS; and director of national SCI registry in Iran. In May 2017, he achieves the 1% highest rank scientist of the world based on citations according to Essential Science Indicators (ESI).
