Daniel L. King
M.Clin.Psych., Ph.D.
I am an Associate Professor and clinical psychologist in the College of Education, Psychology, & Social Work, Flinders University. My expertise is the study of digital technology-based problems, with a focus on online gaming, simulated gambling, and social media. I have authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, including the first book on DSM-5 Internet gaming disorder. I have received funding from the Australian Research Council to study maladaptive gaming, and five national awards for research achievement, including the 2017 Paul Bourke Award from the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA) and, with Paul Delfabbro, a 2015
Thomson Reuters Citation Award for our contributions to the Social Sciences in the areas of digital media, gambling and addiction. I have more than 10 years of lecturing experience and Honours, Masters, and PhD supervision. I have provided consultation on gaming and gambling for national and international authorities, including the World Health Organization. I am an Associate Editor for
Addiction and Journal of Behavioral Addictions.
