Seeram Ramakrishna

Professor Seeram Ramakrishna, FREng, is the Director of Center for Nanofibers & Nanotechnology, and professor of materials engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS). He is a Highly Cited Researcher in Materials Science (www.highlycited.com). He is among the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds (Thomson Reuters). He is also ranked at among the top four researchers of Singapore (http://www.webometrics.info/en/node/107). He is the most cited engineer in the history of Singapore.


He is a recognized world authority on electrospun nanomaterials.  He authored 7 books and ~ 750 ISI listed journal papers (https://scholar.google.com.sg/citations?user=c9Tu-9AAAAAJ&hl=en), which attracted ~ 50,000 citations and ~102 H-index. His research outcomes have been translated into products.  He advises start-up companies, and venture capital funds. He is an associate of Carbon Trust, UK.   He is an editorial board member of ten international journals.  He mentored over 100 graduate students and visiting scientists.  He delivered over 200 plenary and keynote lectures around the world including a special lecture at the Kavli Symposium on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies, Trondheim, Norway.


He received PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, and the General Management Training from Harvard University, USA.   His academic leadership includes National University of Singapore Vice-President (Research Strategy); Dean of Faculty of Engineering; and Founding Chairman of Solar Energy Institute of Singapore.  He is an elected international fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, UK; National Academy of Engineering, India; ISTE; Singapore Academy of Engineering; ASEAN Academy of Engineering & Technology; Institution of Engineers Singapore; American Association of the Advancement of Science; ASM International; American Society for Mechanical Engineers; American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering; Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK; and Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, UK.


He is a recipient of IFEES President award- Global Visionary; International Fellow of ISTE; International Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering; Chang Jiang Scholar and Guongdong Leading Talent; Nehru Fellowship; LKY Fellowship; NUS Outstanding Researcher Award; IES and ASEAN Outstanding Engineer Award
