Gian Paolo Fadini

Gian Paolo Fadini (born Feb 13th, 1979) is Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Padova and Associate Medical Director at the Division of Metabolic Diseases of the University Hospital of Padova (Director Prof. Angelo Avogaro). Prof. Fadini also works at the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine (www.vimm.org), which is a basic science facility, where he leads the Laboratory of Experimental Diabetology. Prof. Fadini’s teaching activity is directed to students of the M.D. course in Medicine and Surgery and of the Specialty course in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Prof. Fadini research activities are devoted to the study of chronic vascular diabetic complications, stem cells in diabetes, angiogenesis, atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, vascular regeneration, wound healing, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, oxidative stress, acute diabetic complications, longevity gene pathways in metabolic diseases. Thanks to a series of clinical translational studies on endothelial progenitor cells, Prof. Fadini research activity has contributed to the understanding of how diabetes induces vascular damage and compromised endothelial repair. As an evolution of this field of study, Prof. Fadini has moved to consider the bone marrow as a target of diabetic complications, which regulates vascular stem cells and regeneration. Prof. Fadini is Associate Editor for Atherosclerosis and Clinical Science, board member of Diabetes and reviewer for (among others): Circulation, Circulation Research, J Am Coll Cardiol, ATVB, Stem Cells, Stroke, Diabetologia, Diabetes, Diabetes Care, European Heart Journal, Nutrition Metabolism & Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetic Medicine, Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice. Prof. Fadini has published >170 articles in peer-review journals, with H-index of 34.
