Graduated in July 1996 with top marks in Biological Sciences from the University of Florence, with a thesis entitled Helicobacter pylori infection: Th1 type immune response model.
After a post-graduate internship at the Immunoallergology Laboratory (Careggi University Hospital, Florence), he began his scientific career with a scholarship, financed by the "Anna Villa Rusconi Foundation", with the object of studying the role of Th1 lymphocytes /Th2 in the pathogenesis of Graft Versus Host Disease.
He won the “Award for best communication” at the XI Congress of the Italian Neuroimmunology Association (Camogli, 26-28 October 2000).
It is currently part of the following Scientific Associations: SIICA, AINI, SIPEM, COMIS.
From 2000 to 2002 he investigated the mechanisms that regulate the acute and chronic inflammatory process at the gastric level, the role of the specific Helicobacter pylori adaptive immune response in various gastric pathologies: gastritis, ulcer, Malt lymphoma and gastric adenocarcinoma.
In January 2003 he won the competition for admission to the PhD in "Clinical and Experimental Medicine" (XVIII cycle), interrupted after a year by winning a position as a fixed-term researcher in the MED/46 scientific sector (Department of Internal Medicine, UniFi).
In 2004 he collaborated on the project financed by the Tuscany Region for the development of stem cell therapies and tumor immunotherapy .
Since March 2005, he has held the position of permanent researcher at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, in Florence.
In 2012 he acquired the National Qualification for second level professor in the disciplinary sector 06/N1 (Sciences of Health Professions and Applied Medical Technologies).
Since November 2015 he has held the role of Associate Professor, MED/46. Holder of courses in Applied Biology and Infectious Diseases, for the three-year degree in Nursing, UniFi. Co-owner of the Immunology course for the three-year course in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques, UniFi.
In recent years, his scientific interest has focused on the study of carcinogenesis, in particular in the role played by the immune response and the tumor microenvironment.
Recently, Professor Amedei joined the team of 300 researchers involved in the planetary project, called the Halifax Project.
Since 2005 he has been responsible for the management of the detection of Helicobacter Pylori infection - Breath Test , at the Interdisciplinary Internal Medicine unit.
Since 2006 he has held courses at the University of the Free Age of Florence.
